I love it when I find a book that teaches my children about
the love God has for them. One Lost Sheep,  written by Rhonda Gowler Greene  and
illustrated by Margaret Spengler, is that kind of book.

This sweet story retells Jesus’ parable of the lost sheep
where the Sheppard seeks after the one. Just like the Sheppard realizes one of
his sheep is missing and goes after him, God will never desert us. What a
beautiful thing to know.
After reading the book, One Lost Sheep, we read the
“The Lost Sheep Parable” together in the Holy Bible.
The Parable of the
Lost Sheep as found in the New Testament

3. And he spake this parable unto them, saying,

4. What man of you, having an
hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which
is lost, until he find it?

5. And when he hath found it, he
layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

6. And when he cometh home, he
calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me;
for I have found my sheep which was lost.”
You can imagine the wonderful discussions I had with my children
after reading the book and discussing the parable. It makes my heart so happy
knowing that their little testimonies of God and our Savior are growing and
that they know that God’s love is unconditional. He is always waiting for us
with open arms.
One of the things that we loved about the One Lost Sheep
Book was the simple, yet engaging rhyming text:
“Shepherd leads
his flock of sheep
to clear; cool stream
past mountain, steep.”
Another thing we really enjoyed about the book were the
adorable illustrations b
y Margaret Spengler. Art has always played a huge part
in my life, and I often purchase books not only for the story, but also for the
illustrations. Sometimes simply for the illustrations. My daughters have a keen
eye for art as well and they both commented how cute the pictures were
throughout the book.
I highly recommend that this sweet book be added to your book
collection. You won’t be disappointed.
