Don’t you just love Scarecrows? We do! Today I am going to share some fun Scarecrow activities we have been doing around our house as well as 4 FREE FUN scarecrow downloads!
Scarecrow’s Missing Buttons Game
One of Little Red’s friends has started joining us once a week during our preschool time and it has been a lot of fun. We usually do preschool time everyday so it is fun to have a friend join us for one of the days.
I made up this really fun “Scarecrow’s Missing Buttons Game”. I gave each girl a Scarecrow Game Board to color. Notice how Little Red felt the need to turn her scarecrow into a girl scarecrow by coloring long brown hair? She is my little princess that is for sure! I gave the girls a bowl full of buttons and a dice. Each girl rolled the dice and then figured out what number they had rolled. They then placed the amount of buttons they rolled onto their scarecrow playing board. They had so much fun deciding where to place their buttons on their scarecrow and played the game over and over.
My amazing sister Lindsey designed a printable dice for me to share with you (in case you don’t have a dice on handy at home). Isn’t it amazing? She figured out the actual blank dice template (brilliant), and then I simply just added what I wanted on the dice and the instructions. Don’t you just love it?!? I can’t wait to design different variations of the dice. Thanks Lindsey for sharing your awesome talent with us. Please remember this printable is for personal and classroom use only. No altering or reselling allowed.

Scarecrow Puppet
The girls had a lot of fun making these scarecrow puppets. I designed them to have movable arms and a torso by adding brads to the scarecrow. Once the scarecrow was colored, cut out, and the brads were added, we added strips of cut up corn husk to look like the scarecrow was stuffed with hay. The last things we did was add the “I’m a Little Scarecrow” poem below, as well as a wooden dowel to the scarecrow. Little Red has had a lot of fun playing with the scarecrow, using it to decorate outside by our stack of corn husks, as well placing it all over to decorate the inside our home.

Finish the Scarecrow PageAnother fun activity we did that helps with spacial reasoning, expanding your child’s imagination, and fine motor skills (plus it is just plain old fun) is this “Finish the Scarecrow” page. Your child is given a partial scarecrow and is asked to finish the scarecrow to help scare “those pesky birds” away. Fun right?

Scarecrow Children’s Literature Recommendations The two books pictured “The Lonely Scarecrow” and “Hello Mr. Scarecrow” have been two favorites in our household for a long time. We loved reading them again this year.
The Lonely Scarecrow by Tim Preston is a sweet story about a scarecrow who is sad because all of the little animals are scared of him and don’t want to come near him. He is so lonely and all he wants is a friend and for everyone to not be so afraid of him. As Fall turns to Winter something magical happens when it begins to snow. Find out how this scarecrow becomes not so scary and is eventually loved by all of these little animals.
Hello Mr. Scarecrow by Rob Lewis is a wonderful book that takes the reader through the months of the year and all of the seasons. It is an excellent book to show the timeline of what happens to the scarecrow each month of the year. It has simple text that helps keep the reader’s attention. I love this book! It is one of the books I recommend reading when teaching about the months of the year. If you missed my post about my
